On Wednesday 16 February the Yarra Valley Soccer Club held their registration day and was delighted at the turnout.

“It looks like we’ll be able to field several Senior Men’s teams as well as a Women’s team, while the numbers for the Junior squads are still coming in,” said Club President Andrew

Ronalds.

“The Victorian Churches Football Association (VCFA) has changed some of the numbers for squads, so the club is still looking for numbers to fill their Under 10’s team for example,” said Steve Fleming.

If your family is interested in trying soccer, there is still time to register for the junior squads. The club also runs an introductory Valley Kids program where young players can learn the skills in a fun and engaging way. Girls and boys of all ages are welcome.

Following on from their successful Registration Day at Millgrove Recreation Reserve, the Yarra Valley Soccer Club had their first friendly matches last Saturday.

With the kickoff for the 2022 season only a few weeks away, the Men’s Senior and Reserve teams went up against Lilydale Montrose United Soccer Club in Lilydale.

The Yarra Valley Reserves were narrowly beaten by Lilydale Montrose Reserves 2-0, with goalscorer Nathan Bell being nominated as the Professionals Yarra Valley player of the game.

There was an entertaining 9 goal frenzy in the senior match with Yarra Valley managing 4 goals against Lilydale Montrose. Yarra Valley’s goal scorers were Eamonn Kinsella, Jason Wishart, Jay Ben and Winjo William. Eamonn Kinsella was awarded People’s Choice Credit Union player of the game.

“For many, it was their first taste of competitive football in over 9 months, and judging by the standard they brought, they have a lot to look forward to this season,” said Committee Member Aden Kerridge.

This coming Sunday 6 March, the YVSC Reserves continue their pre-season training in a friendly round-robin with their Valley rivals Healesville SC and Lilydale-Montrose SC.

The kick-off for this mini-festival of football is at 10am at the Quarry Road Reserve in Lilydale.
