Two victories, two losses, and two wonderful Intra Club Singles Finals highlighted another week of bowls for the Warburton Bowls Club this week.

On Thursday evening following training, the Intra Club singles Finals were held. Two high-standard games saw Rayna Zunneberg defeat Natasha Caneva in the Women’s Final and Chris Lord defeat Paul McConachy in the Men’s Final. Wonderful performances from all players entertained the crowd. Both Rayna and Chris will now represent the Burras in the Regional Champion of Champions event.

The weekend Warburton 1 side played Mitcham 1 away in another close contest. They went down fighting, 72 shots to 80. These close losses have been costly for the Burras making it very difficult to reach the finals.

Rink scores were as follows: A. Donohue 21/ 15; S. Lord 19/ 20; P. Caneva 18/ 18 and C. Neale 14/ 27.

They played Donvale 1 at home on Sunday in fine conditions. In a solid performance, the Burras won three rinks to win by 19 shots, 84 to 65. Rink scores were as follows: A. Donohue 16/ 17; S. Lord 23/ 20; C. Neale 26/ 12 and P. Caneva 19/ 16. Next weekend sees another double against Bundoora RSL 1 away on Saturday and Yarra Glen 1 away on Sunday.

The Warburton 2 side played the fourth-placed Chirnside Park 2 at home and won their fourth game in a row, 87 shots to 57. Their recent overall form has been vastly improved.

Rink scores were S. Freestone 23/ 17; G. Lewis 14/ 15; G. Wynd 21/ 17 and S. Darwall 29/ 8. They play Ferntree Gully 3 away this week.

The mid-week Warburton 1 side, played the second-placed Heathmont 2 at home in superb bowling conditions. However, after a tight contest, Heathmont pulled away to win by 8 shots, 52 to 60. Fortunately, the Burras hold on to their third position on the ladder. Rink scores were S. Lord 19/ 15; S. Lee- Tet 16/ 24 and G. Walsh 17/ 21. They play Mooroolbark 2 away this week in another important match leading up to the finals.

The Wednesday Night Barefoot Bowls Triples Competition continued last Wednesday in overcast conditions. All games continue to be played with great enthusiasm. Carol Andueza (Can’t Remember) started the evening well by receiving the prize for the first player to touch the jack.
