Burras win in a thriller

In a thrilling finish against Pakenham 1 at home, Warburton Bowls Club’s number one side came from behind to win 83 to 82.

It came down to the last end of the game.

Warburton needed three shots to win and S. Lee-Tet’s rink did just that.

Rink scores were J. Van Der Zweep 12/36, S. Lee-Tet 25/16, A. Holmes 24/11 and J. Brookes 22/19.

The side will play Mulgrave CC 1 away this week as it looks to continue its steady improvement across all rinks.

Warburton 2 played Mooroolbark 3 away and once again the Burras allowed the opposition to gain the early break before an improved second half saw them go down, 54 to 88.

Rink scores were B. Hall 17/22, P. Summers 13/17, T. Appleton 14/20 and N. Whelan 10/29.

The side plays Donvale 2 at home this week as it looks to improve on its starts to avoid playing catch-up.

The Mid-Week Tuesday Pennant team played Boronia 1 at home before the break and continued on its winning way, 70 to 40.

Rinks scores were G. Walsh 27/13, R. McKail 20/14 and S. Lord 23/13.

The side will play Mooroolbark 2 away this week.

The Wednesday Night Barefoot Bowls Triples Competition results for the round before the break were: Big Al’s d Dill’s Crew by forfeit; Nutters 13 d Saint Dogs 9; Get Schwifty 23 d Trailer Trash 6: KT’s 16 d Dunny Divas 5; G Force 17 d Moonshiners 9; Pensioners 20 d Reefton Rockets 6 and Bolters 11 drew with Shambolics 11.

Burra Boys had the bye.

The competition starts back on 16 January.

The Club Championship Singles Finals were held on Sunday and both games were of an extremely high standard.

Rayna Zunneberg won the women’s singles defeating a gallant Natasha Caneva 25/22.

Jason Van der Zweep came from behind at the finish to win 26/24 against Paul Caneva in the men’s singles.

Congratulations went to all players for a wonderful performance, and the club wished Rayna and Jason luck in the Regional Champion of Champions Singles Competition.
