A Liberal State Government would move to cap rates for farmers.
Liberal Eildon incumbent Cindy McLeish said that if elected on 24 November, her party would establish an independent inquiry into farm rates across the state.
She said a “qualified individual” would lead the inquiry, and must deliver actionable recommendations that would help to make rates fair for farmers across Victoria.
The terms of reference would ensure comprehensive consultation with farmers and the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF).
“Food and fibre producers are the powerhouse of Victoria’s economy,” Ms McLeish said.
“As a primary producer running beef cattle, I know how increased costs of production are affecting farming businesses.
“Farming families are already under pressure from drought, rising energy and water prices, and a swag of new taxes.”
