Running for the young

Runners will pound the pavement in Lilydale to improve young lives.

Bridge Builders Youth Organisation will host its fifth annual Run for the Young Marathon on Sunday 25 November.

Funds raised will help local youth to uncover their life purpose through various programs and initiatives that the charity hosts throughout the year.

The family-friendly marathon will start in Lilydale at Box Hill Institute’s Lakeside Campus.

Many participants are flying in from the USA, Fiji and Poland to take part.

There are six different categories, from a 5 kilometre fun run through to the 42km full marathon.

Unique to this event is the ‘marathon newbie’ category, created for runners attempting their first marathon.

This year’s event will also have a new 2.5km kids run for runners aged 12 years and under.

Event founder and race director Beck Mitchell couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to be a marathon runner, ever since I was 12 years old,” she said.

“Through my involvement in Bridge Builders I was able to make my dream a reality, and since then has given the same opportunity to thousands more.”
