A Seniors Week activity that brought The Sound of Music to the hills around Warburton has put the local Seniors Club on the map as a ‘can do’ club.
More than 240 people attended the Sound of Music Tribute Show by actors Mark and Stephanie Renouf on 26 October … and they left calling for an encore next year!
Warburton Seniors Club president Barbara Mutsaers said they knew they were on a hit when their first show sold out, so they rallied the team and booked in a second show, which also sold out quickly.
The Renoufs sang all the favourite Sound of Music songs, with puppets and audience participation adding to the fun.
“We had people from all around Yarra Ranges and from as far away as Toorak, Tullamarine, Brighton and Hawthorn who came up to Warburton for the show,” Mrs Mutsaers said.
“I think it has brought more people in to the club and they now know what we do; that we can put big shows on and that we can cater for them.”
Yarra Ranges Council funded the event as part of the council’s Seniors Week activities and Mrs Mutsaers said the club was very grateful especially to Janette Scott, council’s volunteer support officer who worked with the club to present the event.
“It’s a lot of work, and we’re all very tired, but very happy that everyone enjoyed it and that it was such a great success.”
Never a club to rest on its laurels, plans are already being hatched for a similar event next year.
