Healesville edged out

The Eastern Region Girls Football competition kicked off its final series on the weekend, with the Healesville under-12s taking on Yarra Glen in the Elimination Final at Wandin.
In a dour game, both teams defended hard and limited scoring opportunities.
Healesville edged in front in the third quarter, scoring a major to go into the final quarter five points in front.
The ball spent most of the quarter in the Yarra Glen forward-line, resulting in Yarra Glen going into the lead; Healesville with a last-ditch effort had the ball in their forward line, but some strong defence by Yarra Glen stopped Healesville from scoring in the final seconds of the game to clinch it.
Healesville now turns its sights to next season, where the club is planning to increase the number of girls teams at the club.
Club president Toby Millman said “the club was planning to field under-10s, under-12s, under-14s, under-16s and under-18s girls’ teams in 2018.
So girls interested in playing should come along to the club’s ‘Come and Try’ session being held in October.
Any girls interested in playing in 2018 can contact Anne-Marie on 0400 604 164.
Yarra Glen 1.4(10) d Healesville 1.1(7)
Goals: K. Willemsen
