Surprise meeting on apartment complex

By Kath Gannaway

A public meeting will be held tonight in Healesville to look at plans for a four-storey apartment/retail complex in Healesville’s main street.
The meeting is at 6.30pm, Thursday 27 July, at The Memo Hall.
The proposal at 165-175 Maroondah Highway (next to the proposed Aldi supermarket) is for a complex including 16 residential apartments and four retail shopfronts.
Among a number of concerns identified in objections and which will be discussed tonight include that the proposal is an overdevelopment of the site, it is a boundary-to-boundary development, exceeds the Design and Development Overlay guidelines for height and is not in keeping with the character of the town’s main street.
Yarra Ranges Council on its website states that while the formal advertising period closed on 22 June, the council will continue to accept formal submissions from the community.
Submissions can be lodged and will be considered up until a decision has been made.
As part of the notification process, the council has posted more than 140 letters informing the community of the planning application.
To view the application document and to make a submission go to www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/Lists/Latest-news/Proposed-development-at-Healesville and search by the application number – YR2016/1275 – or the above address.
