Find out all about Eve, and her friends at Healesville Library this month.
Relaxing in her red bikini and sun hat, Eve, is part of a display by the Australian Cloth Doll Association currently on show.
Made by Yarra Glen cloth doll maker, Rosalie Collie, she is in good company sharing shelf space with a delightful collection that includes an intriguing range of art dolls from mermaids and fairies to statuesque ladies, an old man with glasses and knobbly knees, a snake charmer, the lady of the house ready to put the kettle on, decked out in an apron and pearls … even the magnificent Beast from Beauty and The Beast.
Rosalie is just one of the club’s 40 members who meet regularly to hone their craft into an art-form.
“I love anything that is three-dimensional … and it’s quirky,” Rosalie said, explaining what it is that sparked her passion for making art dolls.
The dolls are made from a variety of media including cloth, polymer clay, paper clay, needle felting, knitting and crocheting and makers can design their own dolls or make them from patterns.
The association meets at East Ringwood where they have a comprehensive library on doll-making and costuming techniques and have regular workshops, demonstrations and provide support and tuition for beginners.
