The names, and the faces, will be familiar to many around the Yarra Valley, but the music is a revelation.
The Anecdote is launching its debut album ‘Carved Upon The Air’ in Warburton on 22 April, with support acts that are sure to make for an unforgettable night.
The album, with songs written over a 15-year period, is a profound work of rich string and brass arrangements, and a compelling and haunting intimacy.
Featuring Warburton’s Andrew Darling (vocals, guitar and trumpet), Michael Arvanitakis (cello guitar and backing vocals) and Leanne Arvanitakis-Hall (percussion), their music is a marriage of painstakingly sculptured songs, poetic lyrics, fiery improvising and spacious interweaving.
Drawing from elements of folk, world music, reggae and jazz, The Anecdote is a seasoned festival act and a dazzling and stunning live experience.
On stage at the Warburton Arts Centre, they will by supported by local acoustic trio Little Giants – Marlee Nebauer and brother and sister team Amanda and Matt Buck – delivering heart-melting female harmonies, funky bass and highly infectious tunes.
Also on the bill is Phoebe like the Moon – Phoebe Rose and Samuel Bear – a storyteller and dreamer whose music calls up faerie tales from the wild woods of the heart.
With three stunning local bands that are destined for great things, the night promises to be a wonderful exhibition of Yarra Valley musical talent.
The Carved Upon the Air launch is at the Warburton Arts Centre on Saturday night, 22 April. To book phone 5966 4500.
