Safety at the summit

By Kath Gannaway

VicForest General Manager Operations, Brad Winthrop, will talk on the key safety challenges and successes in everyday forest operations at an industry summit in Melbourne on 7 and 8 March.
Mr Winthrop, who is based out at the Woori Yallock office, will be presenting to hundreds of forestry professionals at the Forest Industry Safety Summit addressing worker safety in what is acknowledged as a dangerous job.
VicForests is sponsoring the event which will focus on the way people, culture, technologies and systems can help improve the safety of workers within the forestry industry.
Nathan Trushell, Acting CEO VicForests, said safety was the most important part of forest industry jobs, and the summit a great way to remind the industry of the importance of keeping their employees safe at work.
“It is our overarching goal to achieve zero harm in everything we do,” Mr Trushall said.
He said VicForests had last year achieved 12 consecutive months without any staff lost-time injuries and a 50 per cent reduction in contractor lost-time injuries.
“However, forestry is a dangerous job and our operations and activities must always be carried out with safety in mind,” he said.
