THE presentation of 75-year medallions and a community street parade were highlights of Seville Fire Brigade’s jubilee celebrations on Saturday 12 November.
The celebration, which was part of the Seville Spring Festival, kicked off with the parade which included present and past brigade members and their families, neighbouring CFA and SES units along with many local schools and community groups.
Since its establishment in 1941 as the Seville Rural Fire Brigade, the brigade has been involved in countless local fire incidents, as well as every major fire in Victoria and many interstate.
The brigade has a long history of supporting the local community and surrounding towns turning out to around 120 incidents annually including car crashes, storm damage and search and rescue.
Paying tribute to the brigade, Seville Township Group president Derry Aulich said they integral to the town’s identity.
“The brigade is more than just something we can rely on for fire management, they are figure, they represent the heart of our town,” he said.
“They can be relied on not only for asset protection, they are represented on many different community groups.”
The jubilee has particular relevance for brigade Captain David Clarke whose grandfather, Alf Chandler, was one of the founding members.
His daughter, Jan Tucker, assisted Captain Clarke in presenting the 75th Jubilee medallions to brigade members on the day, with former members also to receive the medallions.
Captain Clarke said it was great to have the community come together to celebrate with the brigade members and their families and recognise the work of many brigade members over the 75 years.
