EACH year the Timber Memorial Service is held to reflect, remember and pay tribute to the hard-working men and women from the timber industry who have lost their lives.
Robbie Heritage, of Heritage and Heritage Funerals, is busy preparing for the 2016 Timber Memorial Service to be held at the Heritage Pioneers Chapel in Woori Yallock at 11am on Saturday, 22 October.
Since its inception in 2009, the memorial service has steadily grown and is now an annual October event within the Yarra Valley.
Truck drivers, log carters, sawmillers, fallers and all who have contributed to the timber industry are remembered.
This year, among others, the service will pay special tribute to the McConachie, Humphreys and Lynch families.
Mr Heritage said the Heritage Pioneers Chapel was built to care for families in the Valley.
“It was dedicated to the timber workers of Victoria as a place of honour to the industry and its workers to ensure the memories of those hard, risky days are not forgotten,” he said.
As such, a huge redgum log stump stands as the lectern in the chapel.
