HEALESVILLE High School students will be taking to the stage at the end of the month to present a musical rendition of Legally Blonde, with four shows set to be performed.
Legally Blonde the Musical will be performed from Thursday, 25 August to Saturday, 27 August, with 30 high school students to perform their version of the 2001 hit comedy.
The story follows Elle Woods as she heads to Harvard Law School to try and win back her ex-boyfriend – along the way she decides instead to prove herself as a serious law student.
Director Tent Morison said the school had been preparing for the production since auditions in February and that, with two weeks to go until the show opened, it was all starting to come together.
“The kids have been working really hard, especially in the last few weeks,” he said.
“I’ve got some amazing people around me who are putting it into action.”
He said the production was chosen by the students and that, though the film itself was not a musical, it followed the same storyline.
“It’s still about Elle following her ex-boyfriend to Harvard and trying to win his love, and that message of her overcoming those stereotypes and really pushing herself.”
Mr Morison said 15 past and present students were also working behind the scenes on lighting, technology and sound and that there would be “no lull moments” on opening night.
“You’re always going to be involved in the show, the whole time – it’s bright, it’s colourful,” he said.
“You’re in for a bit of a fun ride.”
The musical will be performed on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 August from 7pm, with 2pm and 7pm shows on Saturday, 27 August.
Tickets are $20, $15 for concession holders or $60 for families of four.
