Car crushed under tree, teen hospitalised

By JESSE GRAHAM

A 16-YEAR-OLD Yarra Glen boy was hospitalised on Sunday, after being injured by a falling tree on Mount Donna Buang and flown to hospital.
About 3.30pm on Sunday 17 July, a Ford Falcon was travelling towards Warburton on Mount Donna Buang Road, near the Rainforest Gallery, when a tree fell onto the car.
Three of the four occupants of the vehicle were uninjured, and were able to get out of the car, but the 16-year-old boy was trapped on the rear driver’s side seat.
Upper Yarra SES members attended, and cut the roof of the car to rescue the boy, and he was flown to The Alfred hospital in a serious but stable condition.
SES Controller Steve Green said the boy had “quite a few injuries” from the incident, and that the car was destroyed from the damage.
Warburton police Leading Senior Constable Tony Pagels said the incident was “horrific”, but said the boy was lucky to not have been killed by the tree.
