POLICE are reminding residents to be wary of thieves over the Easter long weekend, with opportunistic thefts on the rise.
Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Sergeant, Melanie Woods, said that police were preparing for an increase in burglaries over the Easter long weekend.
She said that opportunistic thefts of power tools and items from cars increase over long weekends, and that there had been a “series” of thefts around the Chirnside Park area.
“It’s generally unlocked vehicles,” Det Sgt Woods said.
She said that cars and houses should be locked when possible, and that power tools are kept secured and engraved, and that owners should record serial numbers in case of theft.
