PROUDLY heralded by ECOSS Yarra Valley, Ecotopia 2016 is coming to town.
And, following her in a cacophony of colour and good humour is a whole carnival of live music, market stalls, workshops, enviro demonstration, drumming, dancing, magic and kids’ fun stuff.
The famous Recycled Fashion Parade hosted by the radiantly sophisticated fashionista Hans Allover will, as always, be closely scrutinised by the “Haute Couture” to determine next season’s newest range of recycled fashion wear.
This year there will be three categories – Children 15 years and under, Chic Boutique for those who fancy themselves designers, and Trash Fash for those who don’t care what they look like as long as they get to strut the catwalk.
The judging panel has been carefully chosen for their vast knowledge in recycled fashion.
Hip hop artist Joelistics, beat boxing instrumentalist Mal Webb, singer and movement facilitator Santha Press and kiwi fruit farmer Ian Cummings will attend Ecotopia 2016.
To be part of this prestigious event, email Melanie on mellie.allen@hotmail.com. There are great prizes to be won!
And, there’s so much more.
There will be sustainability building, alternative energy and bee keeping demonstrations, worm farm testing tanks, kids’ water invertebrate’s search, the giant pumpkin competition and two stages packed choka block with live music, dancers and roving performers.
The bands line-up includes Joelistics, Mal Webb, The Teskey Brothers, The Anecdote and Sound Mandala.
Just when you think Ecotopia couldn’t get any groovier, there’s a silent disco, and, from the misty ponds of nostalgia, the Melbourne Connies (in uniform woo hoo!) handing out their own tickets of special wisdom.
New to the festival, a whole area will be dedicated to food and beverage tasting to celebrate the delicious cuisine produced in the Yarra Valley.
If that’s all a bit too exciting, relax, there’ll be a healing area including massage, astrology reading, refloxology, reiki, or just a sit in the “pleasure dome”.
Aligning with Year of the Platypus, Ecotopia’s theme this year is “River to Sea”, with lots of opportunities to learn how, as caretakers of the Upper Yarra, everyone can play a role in caring for our waterways.
