A HEALESVILLE boy will be shaving his head to raise money for blood cancer research, taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave next week.
On Wednesday, 23 March, 10-year-old Jack Christie will go under the razor and shed his blond hair to support the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
He told the Mail that he came up with the idea to do the shave, inspired by someone he knew who was living with blood cancer.
Since announcing and launching a fund-raising page, Jack said he had been well supported, quickly smashing through a $300 fund-raising goal in about a week.
As of Friday, 11 March, the Grade 5 student had raised $470 out of his new goal of $560.
The World’s Greatest Shave website lists different achievements, which can be unlocked by raising more money for the cause – Jack’s most recent was a Helping Hands Badge, which signified that he raised $250.
“That’s enough to enable a family to attend a support program specific to their blood cancer,” the site read.
The shave is set to take place at 4.30pm, outside the Eview Group real estate office in Healesville, with Vanessa from Haircutters Gallery doing the honour of shaving Jack’s head.
