EMERGING local artists Amanda Lacy and Rosie Nash will enjoy the chance to exhibit their work at the upcoming VCE Creative Showcase.
Now in its ninth year, the initiative includes work from secondary schools from the entire Yarra Ranges, culminating with exhibitions at the Burrinja Cultural Centre, the Studio Gallery in Warburton, and the Red Earth Gallery in Mooroolbark.
The collection features works from the 2015 graduates of art and studio art.
Development officer, Amy Middleton, curates the exhibition after numerous visits to the art classes at schools in the region.
After meeting with the students and teachers, she observes the students’ portfolios as they develop.
The result is an opening night in which the public, along with friends and families of the artists, can attend and celebrate.
Monbulk College VCE student, Amanda Lacy, said she was excited to receive recognition for much hard work.
“It’s been a long process, it’s great to look back to see how far I’ve come since I first started,” she said.
“This is something I’ve put a lot of work into, so it’s great to be recognised.”
Amanda said she will present photograph prints, some of which have been manipulated digitally.
She said her theme focused on the subconscious and included topics such as insomnia and nightmares.
“This is a great initiative and I can’t wait for people to see my work,” she said.
Opening nights for the exhibition include the Red Earth Gallery on Thursday, 4 February, at 6pm; Burrinja Gallery on Friday, 5 February, at 7pm; or The Studio Gallery in Warburton on Saturday, 6 February, at 2pm.
