IT WAS hard to miss the Healesville Music Festival, which filled the town’s venues and main street with bands, musicians and events over the weekend.

The sixth annual festival was held from Friday 13 November through until Sunday afternoon, with businesses and venues in towns hosting a line-up of musicians from home and abroad.

While the Memo, the Terminus Hotel and the RSL hosted paid, ticketed events, anyone passing through the town would have received a taste of the festival, with bands performing in the streets and cafes.

Organising committee members David Johnston and Michael de Oleveira hailed the event as a success, with a strong attendance right across the board.

Mr Johnston said the Soulsville performance at Healesville Uniting Church on Sunday morning saw about 280 people cram into the church and an overflow room.

Between an opening night event at the Memo, a bush dance the following night, and packed rooms at the RSL and the Terminus, along with other festival venues, both Mr Johnston and Mr de Oleveria said next year’s event will build on this year’s successes.

Mr Johnston pointed out Healesville musician, Ben Mitchell, who “took the bull by the horns” when equipment blew during his set, only for him to perform acoustically with his band-mates.

Mr de Oleveria said the organising committee would have a couple of months of rest and relaxation before starting their planning for the 2016 festival in February.
