THE winners of the annual My Place, My Community photo exhibition and competition were announced on 26 August.
The winners of each year are included in the Warburton and Yarra Junction and District Community Bank branches calendar for 2016.
The competition runs each year and members of the community are invited to take photos that will make up the calendar for the combined community banks.
This year was the fourth time in this event that the public had the chance to vote for their Peoples’ Choice both at the Arts Centre and online.
There were 1042 votes cast this year for 69 photographs submitted by members of the community based on the theme “Upper Yarra, My Place, My Community”.
Four of the 12 photographs selected this year were submitted from young people under the age of 18 from the local communities.
Community Development Worker at Upper Yarra Community Enterprise, Suyin Chan said it is a great pleasure to be involved in the competition and exhibition again this year.
“Once again a wonderful display of the best places and the best talents in our wonderful community,” she said.
“It’s always wonderful to see the wide array of perspectives on what makes living here a great thing.”
Doug Greenall’s “Donna Snow Bike” was awarded the Judges’ Choice, which came with a $500 prize and will be the front cover of the calendar.
Maia Hanrahan’s “The Warby Ducks” was awarded a $250 prize as the Under 18 Judges’ Choice.
Maddy Bennett’s photo “First Day in the Sun” was voted People’s Choice and she received a $200 prize.
The calendar will be available from early November for members of the Warburton and Upper Yarra Community Banks.
