KIARA Flavel is the latest Australian Champion at Yarra Ranges after a devastating finish to claim gold at the Australian Cross Country Championships, held at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Competing in the 10-year-girls 2000m, alongside fellow club member Maddie Laven, Kiara produced an outstanding finish to move from fourth to first over the final 400m.
Maddie was not far behind, finishing in an outstanding fifth place to earn a team gold.
Other Yarra Ranges Athletics athletes competing were Georgia Laven (12th under-14 girls 3000m), Ruby Dixon (27th under-14 girls 3000m), James Laven (28th under-16 men 4000m and a team bronze), Veida Somerville (28th open women 8000m) and Amanda Branson (7th women 40-plus).
Lucas Taylor and Lee Taylor competed in the Australian Road Walking Championships on Sunday.
Next up for Yarra Ranges Athletics is the registration day on Saturday 12 September.
