THE Healesville juniors took on Monbulk this weekend and Ferntree Gully travelled to Queens Park for the under-12 Girls clash.
The under-10 game was a tough contest and the game was very tight in the early stages. To the boys’ credit, they were able to outwork their opposition as the game progressed and were able to kick five goals in the second half.
The under-11s got off to a great start, with two quick goals and held Monbulk goalless. Monbulk then came back strong to run out winners in the end, but the Healesville players once again fought it out to the end.
The team is coming together and starting to play some great football.
The under-12 Girls took on the top-of-table Ferntree Gully side.
Ferntree Gully proved too strong on the day, with Healesville missing key players this week, but it is exciting to watch the girls as the coaching staff can see the improvement every week in their endeavour, tackling and kicking.
The under-12s put together a comprehensive team performance against Monbulk, close to their best for the year. After an impressive opening from Monbulk, where their centre clearance work was a feature, the team settled and got things back on our terms by quarter time. The remainder of the game saw the team’s running style of play kick in – and plenty of clean, precise ball movement from the depths of defence, right through to our full-forward line was a pleasure to watch.
Monbulk’s effort persisted throughout, but Healesville’s unselfish, thoughtful football was too much. A super effort from every player, well done.
