MOBILE phone black spots across the Yarra Ranges will be eliminated by new mobile phone towers, which have been announced this morning.
Dixons Creek, East Warburton and surrounding areas will be serviced by two new base stations which will be among the 109 to be erected state-wide in the next three years.
Casey MP, Tony Smith, said the new base stations, worth $1.16 million would improve coverage for the two areas once built.
“These mobile phone base stations are not only vital economic infrastructure for business and tourism in the Yarra Valley, but play a critical part in the safety of local residents, as both towns remain at high risk of bushfires,” he said.
Steels Creek was one of the areas devastated by the Black Saturday bushfires, while Warburton is the highest-risk town in Victoria for bushfires.
Steels Creek will receive mobile phone coverage from the Dixons Creek tower.
The Federal Government announced the new towers this morning as part of an $86 million project in conjunction with Telstra and the Victorian Government.
