Charged after police chase

A MAN is facing a slew of charges after he was arrested last week, following a police chase. He was found with the drug ICE in a stolen car.
On Wednesday 20 May, police received reports of a car driving erratically at high speed near Healesville-Yarra Glen Road.
The driver was intercepted by police on the road, but he took off when police officers got out of their car, sparking a police pursuit.
Police caught up with the driver at a road works site in Edward Road, Chirnside Park, and it was discovered he was driving a stolen car.
The 29-year-old driver, of no fixed address, was charged with theft of a motor car, theft of number plates and possession of ICE, and was remanded in custody to face the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court.
Tools stolen from camp
POWER tools were stolen from Healesville’s Polana Youth Camp earlier this month, and police are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
Between noon on 12 May and 10am on 16 May, unknown people broke into the Don Road youth camp property, stealing a brush cutter, a chainsaw, an angle grinder and other tools.
Lilydale Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Sergeant Mark Smithwick said that a lock was jimmied and cut from the back of a building, and that the value of the items was believed to be about $5000.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lilydale police on 9739 2300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Jewellered pilfered
POLICE are searching for jewellery thieves after a Bangambalanga Avenue property in Healesville was broken into earlier this month.
Between 10.30am and 1pm on 17 May, unknown people are believed to have entered the property through an unlocked sliding glass door and stolen about $2000 worth of jewellery.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Driver trapped in drain
A WOORI Yallock man was saved from drowning by his passenger, after his car landed in an overflowing drain over the weekend.
About 10.45pm on Saturday 23 March, the Woori Yallock driver, aged in his early twenties, crashed his car into a large drain on Healesville-Kooweerup Road in Woori Yallock.
Yarra Junction police Senior Constable Matt Ward said the passenger was able to free himself from the car, but the driver was trapped.
“He had to get back in, to hold their head above the water, otherwise he (driver) would have drowned,” Sen Const Ward said.
The driver was pulled out of the car by CFA members and airlifted to The Alfred hospital.
