Wild about food, wine

Wild Cattle Creek Estate is gaining momentum along with a big reputation.

AFTER opening their doors in 2005, Wild Cattle Creek Estate has become one of the Yarra Valley’s most rapidly expanding estates, with further growth planned.
However, don’t let the winery’s age fool you, the owners of the winery/restaurant, Kevin and Heather Dixon, and Graham and Ingrid Smith, have vast experience in the industry.
Wild Cattle Creek Estate is gaining momentum along with a big reputation for quality Yarra Valley wine, great value dining experiences, well-organised functions and weddings and all complemented by onsite accommodation.
Before their venture at Wild Cattle Creek Estate, the Dixons established another Yarra Valley vineyard, Bindara Estate at Coldstream, producing fruit for some of the world’s most renowned wineries.
Meanwhile, in the early 1990s, the Smiths established Langbrook Estate Vineyard at Yarra Junction, also producing fruit for some of the world’s most renowned and prestigious wineries.
In fact, while Wild Cattle Creek Estate was developing its vineyard, the winery produced their earlier vintages using the produce from Langbrook Estate.
In 2006, Wild Cattle Creek Estate created wines from their own vines and have established a high standard for their vintages, adopting quality and value as the main objective.
Today, the group takes great pride in what they have created and have kept as close to traditional wine making techniques as possible, including the harvesting by hand on both estates.
“Our estate wines are sourced from our own vineyards,” Kevin said.
“Both of which are ideally situated in the higher altitude of the Upper Yarra Valley and within one of the most renowned cool climate wine grape growing regions.”
He said what sets Wild Cattle Creek Estate apart from other wineries in the area was that it was more than just a boutique winery.
It is a restaurant and an event venue, enhanced by onsite accommodation options from heritage style to modern.
The estate is the perfect romantic setting.
It is ideal for wedding couples, families or groups celebrating their special event.
“Our policy is to source as much local produce as possible to enhance our guests’ dining experience and offer real value to our guests,” he said.
As its name would suggest, Wild Cattle Creek Estate is well known for its signature dish which is its 150 Day grain-fed eye fillet served with semi-dried tomato mash, seasonal greens and red wine jus.
Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, including Christmas lunch, the restaurant is also available for private functions.
The facilities are extremely versatile with different rooms to accommodate all types of functions.
Wild Cattle Creek Estate can cater for groups of 10 and up to 150 seated guests.
