Athletes shine at nationals

Georgia and James Laven proudly show off their medals.

By PETER DOUGLAS

YARRA Ranges Athletics athletes are the toast of Victoria this weekend after four athletes won medals at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships in Sydney.
Lateisha Willis was the undoubted star of the meet with two gold medals (90m hurdles and 200m hurdles) with a silver medal (4x100m relay).
Before the meeting, Lateisha was the club’s only national champion, having won gold at last year’s championships.
Lateisha went one better this year, picking up two gold medals, but has been joined in the national champion list by James Laven after his win in the 2000m steeplechase.
Not to be outdone, James’s sister Georgia finished third in her 800m to claim a bronze medal.
Chelsea Thompson had to wait until Sunday afternoon to claim her silver medal for finishing second in her 200m.
Especially impressive was the results of all our athletes, almost all achieving personal bests on the biggest stage.
New members of all ages and abilities will always be welcomed at our club.
