AN out-of-control vehicle struck six cars at Healesville Walk carpark last Thursday about 3.50pm.
In a peak time for the business district, with many shoppers and schoolchildren present, witnesses reported hearing a loud revving before seeing a car rush through the carpark.
According to Healesville Police, it is believed a male driver, 70, got his foot stuck on the accelerator pedal.
The driver was later transferred to Maroondah Hospital for observation, with police saying his licence will now be subject to review.
Police reported no injuries from the incident, but noted the incident could have ended tragically.
Jay Lamnek, from Healesville, was one witness whose car was struck.
“He was absolutely flying,” he said.
“He came out from behind the block and flew down, bumping cars along the way.
“I was worried someone was going to get hit.”
Another witness, who wished to remain anonymous, watched helplessly as their car was also hit.
“I first thought it may’ve been a case of road rage,” they said.
“There was a lady walking her pram and I thought she was going to get hit.
“I think it was lucky no-one was seriously hurt.”
Meanwhile, at an almost identical time, a CFA crew on its way to the earlier accident stopped at the corner of Maroondah Highway and Green Street in Healesville.
At 3.50pm, a blue Suzuki Swift collided with a set of traffic lights at the intersection, completely knocking them over.
While there were no serious injuries, an ambulance was called to treat the 61-year-old female driver of the car for chest pains.
Both the Healesville Police and CFA attended the scene after the accident. Healesville Police believe the woman applied the accelerator pedal instead of the brake.
