Police seek high-speed driver

By JESSE GRAHAM

POLICE are hunting for a driver who sped through Healesville yesterday afternoon (Monday), with at least five police cars pursuing the driver to the Black Spur.
Police believe the driver of a champagne-coloured Holden VT Commodore refused to pull over in Lilydale.
The driver then led at least five police cars on a high-speed chase through to Healesville at 1.30pm, speeding through the main street in town and towards the Black Spur.
A police helicopter is also believed to have been part of the chase.
Healesville Police Sergeant Stewart Thomson said that due to the driver’s speed and safety concerns, police had to abandon the pursuit.
The Mail’s Facebook page filled with comments from people who had witnessed part of the pursuit, including one user who said their mother’s car was barely missed as the cars roared by.
Shara Lambeth wrote that the cars “just about took out my mum as she was waiting to turn into Don Road”.
“It was all very close. Shook the car and cut off a small delivery truck at the intersection of Don Road and Maroondah Highway, just missing the truck by centimetres. Pretty hair-raising.“
Sgt Thomson urged anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the car chase, to call Healesville police on 5962 4422 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
