ROAD users should take care on the roads from Alexandra to Lilydale on 6 and 7 December, as the RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride passes through the area.
Around 3750 bike riders will participate in the ride which starts in Albury and will finish in Lilydale, covering a distance of 520 kilometres through Victoria’s North-East.
The ride will affect traffic on 6 December along Station St, Goulburn Valley Hwy, Taggerty-Thornton Rd, Maroondah Hwy, Buxton-Marysville Rd, Murchison St, Pack St, Falls Rd, Marysville Rd and Don Rd.
On 7 December, the ride will impact traffic on Don Rd, Maroondah Hwy, Healesville-Kinglake Rd, Healesville-Yarra Glen Rd, Old Healesville Rd, Melba Hwy, Macintyre Lane, Victoria St, Beresford Rd, Gardiner St, Castella St, Jones St and Clarke St.
Maroondah Hwy through the Black Spur will be closed between Anderson Lane and Juliet Crescent from 11am-2.30pm on 6 December.
Bicycle Network and the Victoria Police, VicRoads and local councils are urging road users to be aware of the changed traffic conditions. Safety of the riders and drivers is paramount, and local road users are advised to seek an alternative route where possible.
Bicycle Network CEO Craig Richards said the Bike Ride would bring many benefits to towns between Albury and Lilydale, but asked road users to be careful around the riders.
“With 3750 bike riders, including 1200 school students taking part in Australia’s largest cycling holiday, we’re asking for their co-operation and understanding throughout this time,” he said.
