A DIXONS Creek teenager, who has been awarded for stellar shooting scores, taking home medals from a national competition, now sets his sights overseas.
Kyle Morrow, 17, topped the junior’s section at the Australian Clay Target Association’s Sporting Nationals competition in Wagga Wagga on 30 and 31 August.
Shooting 73 out of 100 targets on his first day and 88 out of 100 on his second day, Kyle came first in his section with a total 161 out of 200 score for the weekend.
Kyle, who received three medals at the competition, said he was honoured to receive his awards.
“I’m pretty honoured and pretty happy about it – it’s a fairly good achievement,” he said.
He thanked his supporters at the Melbourne Field and Game and Melbourne Gun Club in Yering, and his mentors who helped him hone his skills.
“Thanks to my dad and Rob Carter for coaching me – thanks for the help and support from Melbourne Field and game and Melbourne Gun Club,” he said.
Kyle said he got into shooting clay targets through one of his teachers at Lilydale High School, who comes to the Melbourne Gun Club on Wednesday afternoons to practice.
He said his next challenge would be taking on the Field and Game nationals’ competition on 1 and 2 November, and that he would like to eventually compete internationally.
“I’d love to go overseas with it,” he said.
“The discipline I do isn’t in the Olympics, but there’re World Championships.”
