YERING Primary School will be celebrating 145 years in the community in a special bush dinner dance this Friday, and tickets are still available for the show.
The dinner dance will take place on Friday 19 September at the Yarra Glen Memorial Hall, beginning at 6.30pm and running through to 11pm.
A bush-band will be playing music for visitors to dance to, and a spit roast meal will be available on the night.
To help mark the celebrations, a number of students at the primary school dressed up in old-timey clothes and took part in activities and games such as knuckles, finger knitting, skipping and clapping patterns.
Rory, Tallyn and Shanae were three of the students who dressed up on the day, with Tallyn borrowing his pop’s hat and an old bag to fit the bill on the day.
Principal Deanna Cole said that she was honoured to be part of the school in its 145th year, with the official anniversary to take place in October.
“I am extremely honoured to be part of the school that is still educating students from the local and surrounding areas and hope to continue to do so well into the future,” she said.
The school opened in October 1869, before a new site – where the school now sits – was found and opened in 1877.
The bush dinner dance will also mark the end of term for the school.
Tickets are still available for the bush dinner dance, but no tickets will be available for purchase on the night, due to catering being organised.
