Swift forest rescue
A SEARCH and rescue in Three Bridges last week took an odd turn when two men were found just 100 metres from their car.
The two Endeavour Hills men went into the State Forest around 3pm on Thursday 4 September, and contacted police around 8pm when they realised they were lost.
Police officers attended, and found the men around 100 metres from their car, which was parked on the side of Black Sands Road.
According to Healesville Leading Senior Constable Kevin Cronan, the visitors had lost the path they were travelling on, and were without torches or any equipment to light the way.
He said they had unintentionally been walking parallel to the road, and that they were close enough to hear the police sirens when they arrived.
Both men were uninjured, and relieved to have been found.
Push for ice intervention
HEALESVILLE police are asking people concerned about domestic violence and drug use to come forward and seek help.
Sergeant Stewart Thomson said police were able to provide assistance, even if no incident had occurred, by providing referrals to agencies or by assisting in interventions.
He said people could come to police and discuss their concerns, and that people should seek help if worried about domestic situations becoming violent.
Sgt Thomson said that police were particularly concerned with the use of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), and urged anyone concerned by the drug use of friends or family to reach out.
“There is an absolute increase in ice usage and ice-related issues, which falls into the family violence area as well,” he Thomson said.
“The drug is so unpredictable, but changes people so much.
“From our point of view, our doors are open if parents or friends want to come down to speak to us, to assist with referrals,” he said.
He said he wanted people to use the police as a proactive service, rather than simply reacting to specific incidents.
Sgt Thomson said that friends and families should protect each other from harmful substances, such as ice.
“Protect your mate – if you know someone on ice, intervene, because it will kill them at the end of the day,” he said.
