POLICE have renewed their calls for help to find a man who disappeared from Healesville six years ago, as part of National Missing Persons Week.
Last week marked the 26th annual Missing Persons Week, and Victoria Police have asked for the public to come forward with information about missing man, Warren Meyer.
Mr Meyer went missing on 23 March – Easter Sunday – in 2008, near Dom Dom Saddle on the Black Spur, when he was going hiking through the area.
Carrying a GPS, mobile phone, food and water in a blue and black striped backpack, Mr Meyer intended on hiking five kilometres along a track and back out again.
He has not been heard from since.
The search for Mr Meyer in March and October, 2008, included hundreds of police officers, SES members and volunteers, and included the largest line search in Victoria Police history.
Assistant Commissioner, Stephen Fontana, said that he hoped National Missing Persons Week would help to jog the memories of people with vital information.
He encouraged anyone with information to come forward to police, or to contact Crime Stoppers to submit a confidential report.
“While the majority of missing people are found within a short period, some are not,” Mr Fontana said.
“If you can help, please contact police. It’s never too late.”
Mr Montana said that, in some cases, people did not want to be found, but could still inform police that they were alive.
“For those of you who may have started a new life without the knowledge of your family or friends, please let police know, so we can at least alleviate some of that pain,” he said.
“You don’t need to tell us where you are, just that you’re okay.”
Warren Meyer was wearing a tan shirt and shorts, with white gloves and brown hiking boots on the day he disappeared.
