OVERTAKING on a winding, wet road is believed to be the cause of a crash last week in Chum Creek that resulted in a pregnant woman being airlifted to hospital.
At 4.55pm on Thursday 10 July, police believe that a car entered Healesville-Kinglake Road from a horse-shoe shaped driveway.
Healesville police Senior Constable Chris Grasby said the driver then indicated to go back into the driveway, via the other entrance.
It was then, Sen Const Grasby said, that a green magna, which was overtaking multiple cars on the road, hit the side of the car.
Police, CFA and Ambulance Victoria all attended the scene, and traffic was diverted in both directions while emergency services attended to the people involved.
The passenger of the magna, who was five months pregnant, was airlifted to The Alfred hospital, and was reported to be in shock at the time.
No other people involved in the crash were injured, but both vehicles were written off.
Sen Const Grasby urged drivers to take care on the roads in wet weather.
“People need to drive to the conditions on the road, and to alter their driving conditions for the wet,” he said.
“It all comes down to driving to the conditions, and paying more attention on the roads.”
The scene of the crash was cleared and the road was re-opened to traffic around 5.35pm.
The condition of the passenger is currently not known.
