WINTER has officially hit, and passionate snow-goers are being sought to keep Lake Mountain’s snowy slopes safe by volunteering with the Lake Mountain Ski Patrol (LMSP).
The LMSP is looking for volunteers to help take part in its weekend patrols near Marysville, working to keep visitors safe while they ski, walk snow-shoe trails and toboggan along the slopes.
LMSP member of four years, Healesville’s Tim Hatten, said it was a rewarding experience for those passionate about the snow and helping others.
“It is rewarding to be able to provide first-aid assistance to visitors at Lake Mountain over the winter months,” he said.
“I also really enjoy working with such a great team of patrollers and learning new skills – and being able to ski on the job.”
LMSP secretary, Catherine Sutton, said after delivering first-aid to people on the slopes, some patrollers had since gone on to become paramedics.
The criteria for volunteers are that they must be fit and competent skiers, or willing to learn.
Volunteers must also be aged 18 or older and have a minimum Level 2 First Aid qualification.
All patrollers receive complimentary resort entry to Lake Mountain, and accommodation is available on rostered weekends.
A training weekend for current and prospective LMSP members will be held at Lake Mountain on 14 and 15 June.
