HEALEVILLE SES has received a kick-start to four-wheel drive fund-raising efforts, receiving a $4000 donation from the Rotary Club of Healesville.
Members of the Rotary Club attended the SES meeting on 26 May for the cheque handover.
Rotarian Lesley Plumpton said the donation was the result of fund-raising from the group, and praised the emergency service for its work in helping community members in need.
“They’re a great community group – we couldn’t do without them in bushfires or car accidents,” she said.
“This is why we fund-raise – so we can help the community. I’m really glad we were able to do that,” she said.
Ms Plumpton said the Rotary Club provided funding annually for groups such as the SES, the Salvation Army and Ambulance Victoria, after fund-raising campaigns.
She said SES members were overwhelmed by the gesture, which will help to fund a new four-wheel drive for the response efforts of emergency service members.
Healesville SES Deputy Controller Geoff Stott said the donation was a nice surprise for the group, and that it was gratefully received.
Mr Stott said the group had consistently received good support from the Rotary Club, which also provided funding for a light tower for the SES’s latest response vehicle.
“We do struggle to find some finance – every little bit helps,” he said.
Work is expected to begin soon on an extension to the Healesville SES’s shed and its facilities.
