Put on your best walking shoes, because the annual HICCI walkathon is coming around again.
The Walk for HICCI Walkathon will begin at 9am on Saturday 3 May at Maroondah Dam, where walkers can take up the task of a one kilometre, three kilometre or six kilometre journey towards Donnelley’s Weir.
Participants are asked to get family or friends to sponsor their walk, and all funds raised on the day will go to Healesville Interchurch Community Care Incorporated (HICCI) and its projects.
HICCI executive officer Kerri Goding said she was looking forward to the event, which would feature a tea-break, sausage sizzle and face-painting.
“It’s just a really relaxed morning,” she said.
The walkathon’s star performer, Healesville’s Sharon Martin will be taking part in the walkathon for her third year in next month’s event.
Ms Martin raised $1500 in last year’s walkathon, and she said that she’s trying to top that figure for this year’s event.
With sponsors from local businesses and residents, Ms Martin said she was on her sixth sheet of sponsors – each sheet holds room for 20 sponsors.
Ms Goding said she was happy to see the community backing the event, which sees around 100 people taking part, and encouraged anyone interested in a morning stroll to sign up.
“You don’t have to spend the whole day there – you can just go and have a walk in the morning,” she said.
The Walk for HICCI Walkathon will run from 9am until around 1pm, with the main walk set to be finished by 11am.
To register, visit Maroondah Dam on 3 May, or contact HICCI on 5965 3529.
