Fire Danger Declared

By MELISSA MEEHAN

A DECLARED Fire Danger period for Yarra Ranges will begin at 1am on Monday 20 January.
During the fire danger period open air burning will be prohibited without a permit.
More information on fire restrictions can be found in the CFA brochure “Can I or Can’t I?” on the
CFA’s website http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/can/
Yarra Ranges Council mayor Fiona McAllister reminded residents to ensure their properties were cleaned up and they had a fire plan for the season.
“If you haven’t already done so, I urge you to finish your fire preparations and know exactly what you will do on a high risk or code red day,” she said.
“This season we are remembering five years since the events of Black Saturday. It is a
timely reminder of how living in and around the bush means we need to be prepared for
bushfires.
“We certainly hope this season passes without any serious incidents.”
Yarra Ranges Council and the CFA have information available online to help residents in their preparation.
