THE BANKS of the Yarra in Warburton proved a fitting backdrop to a rally to encourage action on climate change on Sunday, 17 November.
The rally, part of an Australia-wide day of action, drew round 50 people, a mix of locals and visitors.
Organised through Get Up! and centred around raising awareness of the importance of climate change the rally was facilitated in Warburton by resident Nancy Seeger.
Dressed in bright reds, pinks and oranges as ‘heatwave’ colours Ms. Seeger said the Get Up, and the rally, was about giving people a voice where there is no voice.
She said there while there were no grand speeches, the atmosphere prompted some discussion about the issue, but was more about just showing support.
“It was an opportunity to be part of the voice that says we are concerned about the climate and the things the government should be doing something about rather than just ignoring the fact that climate change exists,” Ms Seeger said.
She said the rally attracted people from as far away as Jindivick, Drouin and Warragul.
Around 30,000 people attended the Melbourne gathering, with 60,000 people attending events altogether throughout Australia.
