THE search is on for a horse that ran away into the Toolangi State Forest last Saturday, with owners frantic to find Missy, the missing pinto mare.
Cockatoo residents Robert Finn and Gladys Ramsay lost Missy on the Monda Track (Track 11) near Toolangi at 2pm on Saturday 12 October after Mr Finn and Missy fell from the riding track.
Missy was last seen running parallel to the track into the Toolangi State Forest, wearing a saddle and bridle, and the community quickly rallied behind the cause to catch the lost animal.
Kinglake SES has been involved in the search effort, along with about 30 to 40 people from the area, following the posting of a Facebook page, called Find Toolangi Missy.
The page, as of Wednesday 16 October, had more than 850 likes, and search groups through the area are being co-ordinated through the page and Mr Finn.
Mr Finn said that he has notified nearby land-owners, the police and the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI), and even organised fly-over in a helicopter, though Missy has yet to be found.
Mr Finn asked that people interested in searching do not bring their dogs, for the safety of the animals and Missy.
