MORE than 1000 runners from across the state made their way to Healesville on Saturday to take part in the annual Yarra Valley Water Grape Run.
The Grape Run was held between Healesville and Yarra Glen, with competitors running either 30.8 kilometres, 13.5 kilometres or 5.2 kilometres.
About 400 runners for the 30.8 kilometre distance took off from River Street, Healesville, at 7.45am, taking a circuit around Yarra Glen before finishing at the racecourse.
The 5.2km walk/run was located in the Yarra Glen racecourse and began at 9.15am, while the 13.5km runners began in Healesville at 10am, with about 700 runners taking a direct route to the racecourse.
Dean Gasson and Bernadette Dornom were the first man and woman to cross the 30km finish line.
Dean’s time for the long-distance run was one hour, 59 minutes and 53 seconds, while Bernadette’s was two hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds.
In the 5.2km run, Shane Grund took the win, finishing the dash in 18 minutes 36 seconds followed by runner Steph Kerry with 20 minutes, 46 seconds.
The winner of the 13.5km run was Robin Rishworth for the men and Jackie Wright for the women, with times of 53 minutes, 14 seconds and 55 minutes, 39 seconds respectively.
This year’s event was the fifth time that the Yarra Valley Water Grape Run had been held in the area.
