Grand Final 2013 Division 2
IN FRONT of a huge crowd at Yarra Junction last Saturday, Healesville delivered a classy brand of football to run out premiers over a courageous Seville in the Division 2 Senior grand final of the Yarra Valley Mountain District Community Bank Football Netball League.
Seville got within eight points early in the last quarter and the signs did look ominous for the Healesville team, however it was Healesville’s young guns that delivered superbly in the second half of the final quarter to win the Division 2 grand final by 46 points.
Josh Goding was superb all today in a best on-ground performance.
In netball A-Grade, Seville stamped its class on the grand final with an 18-goal victory over a brave Yarra Junction team with Seville’s Captain Ash Hardy performing with distinction in a best on court performance.
The Division One grand finals will be held this Saturday at Healesville with Woori Yallock tackling Upwey in senior football and in netball A Grade, Upwey tackle Belgrave.

Division 2 2013 (Finals)
Grand final (Seniors)
Healesville v Seville 12.8 (80)
THERE is no doubting that the two best teams in the competition played off in the grand final and it was a most entertaining game.
Healesville looked like it was in total control of the contest in the first half as it got out to a 35 point lead and looked to have all the momentum.
Seville has been the best side all year at coming from behind and it pulled out all stops in the third quarter booting six goals to three and reduced the margin to just 20 points at the final change and all of a sudden there were some nervous Bloods’ supporters, especially when Seville got within eight points early in the last quarter.
As good as Seville’s fight back was, they just didn’t have the legs to go with Healesville in the final 15 minutes of the game.
The week rest helped Healesville as they finished full of running and slammed on seven last quarter goals to three to win by a convincing 46 points.
Healesville only lost one game for the season and were by far away the best team all year and certainly deserve their premiership glory.
Healesville 18.18 (126) d Seville 12.8 (80)
Grand final (Reserves)
Healesville v Seville
SEVILLE had beaten Healesville twice this season and would have given itself a big chance here but Healesville was just too good from the outset.
The Bloods got out to a 14 point lead at the first change and increased that to 20 by half time.
Although the lead wasn’t a great one, Seville never looked too threatening, Healesville only increased its lead to 28 points by the last change and in the grand scheme of things that’s not a big margin but the way this game was going it was huge for Seville to overcome.
Healesville finished the day like a premiership side with a five goal to one quarter to come away with a convincing 56 point victory and a Premiership Cup. Healesville’s Jake Chandler was adjudged best on ground.
Healesville 13.12 (90) d Seville 5.6 (36)
Grand final (Under 18)
Olinda Ferny Creek v Warburton Millgrove
THE difference in the end of this game was that Olinda was just way more efficient with ball in hand going forward, when it had the run of the game it made it count whereas Warby wasted the opportunities it had.
Warby held a two-point lead at quarter time but it was Olinda’s second quarter where it set the game up.
It may have only kicked three goals but it held Warby to just three points and by half time Olinda held a 13 point lead and the momentum.
The third quarter showed a difference in class as Olinda had six scoring shots on goal for a score of 5.1 while Warby had more chances with seven shots on goal but produced 2.5 and at the last change Olinda held a commanding 30 point lead.
Both teams were out on their feet in the last quarter and there was just no way Warby could find a way back as Olinda kicked two goals to one to eventually win by 36 points in a performance that was worthy of premiership glory.
U16 player Stuart Horner was best on ground in a stellar performance.
Olinda Ferny Creek 13.5 (83) d Warburton Millgrove 6.11 (47)
Division 1 2013 (Finals)
Preliminary final (Seniors)
Woori Yallock v Wandin
WOORI YALLOCK has pulled off their best win of the year and they couldn’t have picked a better time to do it than in the preliminary final against what was the more favoured team in Wandin.
In a great game of footy where the lead didn’t get beyond 10 points all day it was Woori that always had the answers.
It led by just one goal at the first change and increased that lead to just eight points by half time.
The feeling was Wandin would be the fitter of the sides in the second half and would slowly get on top but it wasn’t to be as everything Wandin threw at Woori, Woori would hold firm and always had the reply.
Woori led at the last change by just nine points.
The last quarter was a ripper with neither team folding under the relentless pressure that was applied but it was Woori that inevitably held on in a dire struggle to win itself through to a grand final against Upwey next week where they will be hoping to pull off what would then be their biggest win of the year.
Woori Yallock 14.11 (95) d Wandin 13.7 (85)
Preliminary final (Reserves)
Mount Evelyn v Wandin
MOUNT EVELYN bound into the grand final against Upwey next week on the back of a great last quarter.
This game was a real arm wrestle and in perfect conditions a higher score could have been expected but both defences stood up for the first three quarters and by the last change there had only been nine goals kicked in total, Mount Evelyn had the slender lead of just one point.
Mount Evelyn’s last quarter was exceptional as they were able to eventually break the game open and find some space forward with hard running attacking footy which showed on the scoreboard as they booted 5.4 but what was more impressive was their defensive work holding Wandin to a scoreless quarter, they will now head into the grand final with quite a bit of confidence.
Mount Evelyn 9.14 (68) d Wandin 5.3 (33)
Preliminary final (Under 18)
Woori Yallock v Upwey Tecoma
WOORI looked the better side all day but it did take them until midway through the third term to get a real grip on the game.
Upwey certainly had plenty of chances but were wasteful with the footy while Woori capitalized when it mattered, at three quarter time both sides had 12 scoring shots but it was Woori with a 25 point lead as they were just cleaner with the ball.
The last quarter saw Woori a bit wasteful with the ball as they scored 2.6 but they still outscored Upwey with 1.1 for the term which sees them advance through the grand final against Wandin next week in what should be an enthralling battle.
Woori Yallock 10.10 (70) d Upwey Tecoma 4.10 (34)
