Pedal to the mettle

THOUSANDS of competitors will be hitting the road this weekend as part of the Yarra Valley Grape Run and testing their mettle in a 30 kilometre trek through the valley.
Runners will begin on River Street in Healesville on Saturday 14 September, running either 30, 13 or 5.2 kilometres along Healesville-Yarra Glen Road, winding their way through vineyards and farmland.
Water and electrolytes will be provided along the way and St John Ambulance members will be on-site.
The Mail has three double passes for would-be competitors to take part in the race, which can be won by visiting the Mail Newspaper Group Facebook page.
Entrants must like, share and comment on the Yarra Valley Grape Run post to enter, and winners of the double passes will be announced on Thursday.
The Grape Run, which is in its fifth year, is expected to attract 2500 competitors and a number of roads will be closed for the event.
Healesville Yarra Glen Road will be closed from 6.30am to 12.15pm, Old Healesville Road from 6.30am to 11am, River Street from 6.30am to 10.30am and the Yarra Glen Bypass from 6.30am to noon.
Access to Healesville-Yarra Glen Road will be available from the Yarra Glen end only, while access to Old Healesville Road will only be available from the Healesville end.
Traffic travelling between Healesville and Yarra Glen will need to use the Maroondah and Melba Highways, and traffic controllers will be in place throughout the day.
