Footy for first birthday

By JESSE GRAHAM

STAFF and residents at Healesville’s Mowby Aged Care Facility celebrated the venue’s first birthday last week with a footy-themed party and some light-hearted drinks.
Mowby Aged Care Facility opened on 22 August 2012 and opened its high-care section on Monday 26 August this year after filling one of its 46-bed sections.
Lifestyle co-ordinator at Mowby Wendy Schulz said the 6 September event was a combination of the facility’s first birthday, the end of the footy tipping competition and the resident’s Friday happy hour.
“The first birthday was last month, so we’re a little late, but we decided to combine all the things into one,” she said.
Residents draped themselves in scarves, jumpers and beanies emblazoned with their team’s logo and socialised over a beer or a lemonade and Ms Schulz said the day was a success.
“They were having a really good party,” she said.
Two residents joined the 120-bed facility on the day, and Ms Schulz said the team wasted no time in getting the newcomers to join the celebrations.
