DIXONS CREEK Primary School’s Abby Arnold was rewarded for her speaking skills after being named winner of last week’s Healesville Rotary Primary School’s speech contest.
The speech contest, which was held on Wednesday 28 August at Healesville High School’s Language Centre, featured representatives from Badger Creek, Healesville, St Brigid’s and Dixons Creek Primary Schools who gave speeches on different topics.
From topics such as “Someone I admire” to “Why we should all watch The Simpsons”, the speakers all received glowing feedback from the judges, Linda House, Kay McCartney and Walter Skilton from Toastmasters.
Grade six student Abby was awarded winner overall for her speech “What’s so strange about Pi?”.
Abby said she was proud to represent her school and appreciated Rotary holding the contest.
Chairman of the organising committee for the group David Lau said he hopes to make the speech contest an annual event.
