HEALESVILLE High School’s theatre students will be taking to the stage this week to perform their rendition of Disney’s classic story, Aladdin.
The Aladdin Jr performance will open tonight, Thursday 29 August, at the school’s Performing Arts Centre, with around 50 students taking part in either technical or performing roles.
Centring in the city of Agrabah, the story of the beggar Aladdin and his quest to win the heart of Princess Jasmine will be told with all of the main characters featured in the film, including Jasmine and the Genie.
The show promises magic, mayhem and flying carpet rides and students will perform some of the well-known musical pieces, including A Whole New World and Friend Like Me.
Performing Arts Centre manager Troy Jansen said students had been training frequently and even came in on the school holidays last month when actress Maria Mercedes ran workshops with some of the cast.
Ms Mercedes commented on the dedication of the performers, as they practiced scenes from the production.
“They’re so enthusiastic,” she said.
“I feel really proud of them, that they’re giving up their spare time to be part of something like this.”
The production will also be held on Friday 30 August from 8pm, with 2.30pm and 8pm sessions to be held on Saturday 31 August.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children or concession card holders and $60 for families.
Tickets are still available for tonight’s performance, which begins at 8pm.
