PRIMARY School Children from Yarra Glen and the surrounds will be able to attend a once-off music event next Friday with a well-known police rock band.
The Code One Police Band will be performing at the racecourse in an event that begins at 5.30pm on Friday 6 September and Yarra Glen Primary School principal Joe Pacquola encouraged primary school families to attend.
“I really do hope that people take up the opportunity to come on down – it will be very cheap, exciting family entertainment,” he said.
Entry to the event will be a gold coin donation, which will go towards State School Relief, which provides money to families for uniforms, books and basic school necessities.
The event has been coordinated by Yarra Glen Police’s youth liaison officer Senior Constable Adam Dickenson and will feature a sausage sizzle and other entertainment.
The Code One Police Band used to perform at the Healesville Memorial Hall, which was organised by late Healesville Police Sergeant Tony Van Gorp.
Mr Pacquola said the event was a throwback to the previous events, which gathered all of the primary schools from the area for multiple shows, and that he hopes students from around Healesville can get to the show.
“It was just a really great event and genuinely, they have the power, the volume and the energy of a rock band,” he said.
Snr Const Dickenson said part of the event is about changing student perspectives of police officers.
“It’s also just for them to see there is a different side to police – we’re not just a uniform, we are human too and we have other interests outside of our work,” he said.
“It gives them an opportunity to relate to police that isn’t just as an authority figure.”
Families and siblings of primary school students from the area will be able to attend the event, which will be held from 5.30pm until around 8.30pm at the Yarra Glen Racecourse.
Entry will be a gold coin donation and families are welcome to bring picnic supplies, though food and drink will be available.
