RAISING money for a cause close to home will be the focus of stalls held around Healesville this week to celebrate the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day.
A stall will be held outside of Healesville IGA on Thursday 22 August and at the Coles Complex on Friday 23 August with merchandise and donation tins for the event.
Long-time stall-runner Beth Honeycombe said Daffodil Day is an opportunity for the community to come together and raise money to help fund cancer research.
“I think it gives everyone a chance to focus on their own loss and to remember the friends and loved ones they’ve lost, and to uphold those who are suffering and going through the difficult times of cancer treatment,” she said.
Ms Honeycombe has been helping with the Healesville Daffodil Day stall since 2004, helping out Jessie and George Arundel who started the stall in 2002 before Ms Arundel passed away in 2006 from cancer.
“I promised her husband I would continue to run this stall every year, in memory of Jessie and the wonderful work she did,” she said.
Ms Honeycombe, who herself experienced loss of a family member as a result of cancer, encouraged people to stop by the stall and to donate money, buy some merchandise and support the cause.
“Come and support the stall, donate money to the cancer council’s research facility, so somebody may have a better chance of recovering from cancer.”
