FIGHTERS from across Victoria converged on the Lilydale International on Saturday night to compete in a range of different fighting events.
From boxing and kickboxing to Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), 13 professional fights were held, with five of them for respective titles.
Lilydale’s Tai Nygen made his professional debut in a MMA fight against Peter Alawanja from Skamma Gym, and won with a TKO in the second round.
Brendan Swaeney fought Michael Batten from Frankston in a kickboxing match, winning comfortably on his points and solidifying his status as an undefeated fighter.
Lilydale Boxer Terry Dehaan fought Blackburn’s Rory Hill for the PBU Professional Lightweight Boxing Title in a six-round match, winning unanimously with points after nearly ending the match in the fourth round.
The main event of the night was Jake Gathercole fighting for the International Middleweight Kickboxing title against New South Wales’s Mitch Carter.
Jake took control of the fight from the beginning, winning with a TKO in the second round.
The pair had faced off in December last year with a different result – Mitch won in a close match, taking home the WKA Kickboxing title.
Trainer Nick Lundh said the fighters from Lilydale performed exceptionally well in their matches.
